A Little Bit About Us

At Brave Spaces, the question we ask ourselves is "What would it look like if we provided brave spaces for children's deepest desires to play, explore and be challenged?" Being a Reggio Emilia inspired, nature-based centre is a great place to start this new journey.

Brave Spaces Early Learning Commons is situated on the unceded traditional territories of the q̓ʷɑ:n̓ƛ̓ən̓ Kwantlen, q̓ə́yc̓əy Katzie, Halq'eméylem Matsqui and Semiahmoo First Nations.

The educators and families at Brave Spaces come from diverse backgrounds. As Educators we recognize the ongoing impacts of colonization on children and families.

We are learning to decolonize education by prioritizing Indigenous pedagogies such as the First Peoples Principles of Learning found in the BC Early Learning Framework in our daily pedagogy.

We center land-based learning, relationship building, reciprocity, storytelling and experiential learning in our pedagogy. This is ongoing work and we welcome guidance from Indigenous families and communities.
